Preservation Music of Montreal debuted in the spring of 1996 recording a young Canadian jazz trio, Panache (featuring vocalist Adam Broughton). Panache went on that year to win the Jazz Report “vocal group of the year award“.
Preservation Music, formerly Preservation Records was founded by local businessman Doug Bellevue with the idea of supporting young jazz and blues artists. Helping to move artists forward with their careers has always been a prime focus of the label. This is a mandate that is as important today as it was in the beginning.
In 1998 a blues compilation CD Preservation Blues Review featuring Detroit's Chicago Pete and a roster of Canadian artists helped to do just that. Rising from this critically acclaimed recording was the sensational voice of Dawn Tyler Watson. Her debut recording Ten Dollar Dress ( 2001) helped to position her as one of the top female voices in the country. Jonas Tomaly and also Rob Lutes made their recording debuts on the Preservation Blues Review.
In the spring of 2005, Preservation Records signed fourteen year old guitar phenomenon blues singer Ricky Paquette who's debut CD is scheduled for a September 2005 release.
